
Pav Bhaji originated in 1861 around the mill areas of Mumbai, soon became favorites of, crowds working around Bombay stock exchange, simply because, it’s content of eight vegetables with Pao substitutes for a wholesome working meal.
First plate of Pav Bhaji was served on 3rd Oct.1866 in the compound of Bombay spinning mills in Tardeo, Mumbai owned by Cowasji Nanabhai Davar.
It is estimated that currently there are 6,000, Udipi food outlets in Bangalore, 50% of them are serving Pav bhaji, 2000 non udipi outlets also serve the same. About 5,000 outlets, sell an avg. # of 50 plates everyday, i.e. 2.5 lakhs per day.
